Prompted partly by the restrictive atmosphere that the corona measures have brought, we have decided to create an enjoyable and spirited exhibition for the month of December. For this we have chosen the ‘car’ as theme, the object that accompanies us for a lifetime, both in everyday life and in the most drastic and dramatic moments. The car is connected throughout the course of our lives and all the emotions linked to it. For many it is therefore a precious object with which a loving relationship has been developed. It is therefore not surprising that there are artists who often or even exclusively use the car as a subject to create art. Realistically, abstracted or mutated, they depict different aspects of the radical influence that the car has on us. The three well-known Dutch artists/designers, Arjen Baars, Floris Hovers and Olaf Mooij have made an exciting selection of their work available for us with which we can build a great exhibition! An exhibition that appeals not only to art collectors, but also auto lovers, and those who simply enjoy fine craftsmanship, humour and affordability. Arjen Baars will show a large series of oil paintings and pastel drawings of now iconic car models. A nostalgic feast of recognition where everyone will recognize a model that evokes a personal story for them (commissions accepted). The small car models by Floris Hovers surprise with their disarming simplicity, not abstract minimalism, but the end result of a long process of reduction. What remains is the essence, an almost cartoonish composition of shape, construction and colour. Olaf Mooij's cars are transformed by him into personalities, into living matter. Biomorphic sculptures with a strong tactile appearance, they invite you to touch and cherish them. Plankgas: we are ready to go!
